Back to today’s topic, how to drill acrylic sheets. Drilling acrylic is not difficult if you have the right tools for the right kind of acrylic sheets. There are two types of acrylic sheets, extruded, and cast.

From a professional point of view, extruded acrylic sheet is not suitable for drilling. As there is internal stress, it may break or crack easily. However, drilling is possible, but it requires great caution. Thus, cast acrylic sheets are a better choice for you.

When drilling acrylic makes sure it is on a flat surface that is well supported. It is recommended to use a clamp to clamp the acrylic sheet along the boreholes. Next, measure the distance between the edge and the hole, it should be twice the sheet thickness away from the edge of the acrylic board.

Furthermore, it is recommended not to mark on the acrylic sheet or on the protective film. Sticking masking tape is the correct way, as it can be easily removed. Avoid using a brand new HSS drill, as it may bite into the acrylic sheets, and cause tearing.
